Course Overview

This on demand, self-paced class is focused on what we refer to as "The Concept of Critical," with an emphasis on critical date points. Historically, and even today, when the term "critical" is mentioned, most project managers tend to think of the "critical path" and its academic definition: the longest path through the network that determines the shortest time in which the project can be completed. In this session, we will challenge the significance of critical path from a schedule perspective and the emphasis it places on the project finish date. Along the way, we will address several questions, including but not limited to:

• Is the project finish date truly that important (critical)?
• Is the project finish date inherently a critical date point?
• What is another way to think about the project finish date?
• What are critical date points?
• How does Microsoft Project calculate critical, and what does it consider to be critical date points?
